Few days ago, I introduced to you the game changing Features of Lucido Avant Window Navigator. Showcasing almost all the features of the best available Dock for linux, I forgot to mention was that the new awn can be aligned to top, bottom, right and left positions in your desktop screen. In this post, you will get to know about some customizations with Awn Lucido giving it a 3D look, making it as good looking as ever.

How to Customize Lucido AWN for 3D Style
With a few customizations and good looking icons, you can easily have a dock similar to the above looking AWN or may be even better. You can install the latest AWN by following step by step instructions. Next, follow the instructions below to customize your AWN:
1. Open Awn Settings [ System>>Preferences>>Awn Settings ]
2. Choose “Style Lucido” in Preferences tab.
3. Insert Separator applet from Applets tab wherever you want curve edges to appear.
4. Go to Themes>>Customize and set the following in color code:
First Gradient Color: #000000
Second Gradient Color: #000000
First Highlight Color: #B9B9B9
Second Highlight Color: #413A3A
Outer Border Color: #A5A5A5
Inner Border Color: #3E3E3E
Set all colors’ opacity to maximum.
If you want your awn to have the icons similar to above set of icons, then you can download the cool looking icon set. The zip file contains two icon packs, Dark and Light. Choose the one you want to use and put all the icons directly into the folder ~/.icons/awn-theme/scalable
The icons will change immediately.
Drop a line if you face any problem. Give your suggestions to be sent to Alberto, the Developer of Lucido AWN.
Many thanks to Andrew of Webupd8.

Since Christmas last year, a trunk build has been released with the ability to have multiple docks.
The lucido theme is also included, and it works just fine for being labelled as a “Trunk” release. May have been updated since and I am just a little behind the ball.
Anyway, look up the PPA for your distribution and add it into your sources.list file (or build it yourself, thusly skipping the step of installation) and install it. If you are using an older version of AWN, then you MUST remove all of it’s components.
If after the trunk install from PPA you get broken packages and non-functional applets that you knew worked before, then use sudo apt-get purge and keep using it and adding whatever dependencies keep it from uninstalling completely until you manage to get the purge command to work.
Also, the 3D effect can be made possible by adjusting the curve symmetry. Max it out to get rid of the bottom layer, or set it to 0.00 to nix the top layer. Could be fun to experiment with. And yes, separators are fun to play with under the Lucido style.
Very simple and useful tips. Thanks a lot for the tutorial article….
