It was a nice experience to join Marshall Kirkpatrick from ReadWriteWeb a few minutes ago on tinychat, where he was reporting about Facebook news search story. The feature was also noticed by AllFacebook a little while ago, but to me, this feature was there from last 3-4 days.

Having a habit to visit TechTickle Facebook Fan Page after searching through the search box, I confronted a similar image few days ago. If you type a phrase in the search box, you will see how many friends of yours like the same story or page related to the “phrase” you entered.
But, what’s so uncommon about the feature?
Earlier, if you tried searching, Facebook would show a number of irrelevant search results, but with this kind of feature, reported as “Social Search” on Facebook, you will be able to see relevant results for your search queries.
Comparing it with Google’s social search feature, this feature once available for everyone will give tough competition to Google social search. As AllFacebook reports:
This new search shows how important Facebook’s Open Graph is to the future of the company. It also underscores the continued tension between the company and Google, who is working feverishly develop their own competitor to Facebook.
