Mozilla has released the fifth beta update to Firefox 4, adding hardware acceleration on Windows and a new audio API that lets developer present audio information in completely new way allowing people to visually experience a speech or a song through Firefox browser!
Faster Graphics with Firefox 4
Windows Vista or Windows 7 with DirectX 10 compatible graphic cards can experience faster graphics wth Firefox 4 beta 5. Firefox 4 uses Direct2D by default to speed up web pages (which was turned off by default in previous beta’s), and is more useful on visually intensive web pages.
Direct2D being Microsoft’s technology, which leaves Linux and Mac users out of the hardware acceleration feature. As Bas Schouten reports, Developers are working hard on alternative approaches to use hardware acceleration on other platforms. You should expect to hear more on that soon!
The new beta adds an interactive ability to videos and images, Firefox 4 Beta 5 comes with a new audio API that allows developers to read and write raw audio data within the browser, presenting audio information in completely new ways, for people to visually experience a speech or a song through Firefox.
Also, adding a new security protocol, HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) in Firefox 4 Beta enables an extra security layer, with Firefox always using the secured connections for websites using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). Few months ago, Google Search introduced a similar feature that allows users to search securely on google.
