Google chrome is supposed to be stable, but recently, many user have started to report the error – The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). And another such error - The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022), has also been reported that won’t let you work on chrome with ease.

chrome application error Fix for Google Chrome Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Earlier it was considered as an error due to semantic products, but this is not the case. After doing a little research on it, i have found a possible solution that worked for me.

Following simple steps, you can easily get rid of the problem. Here are they-

  1. If google chrome is running on your system, close it.
  2. Find the shortcut to Chrome, Right click and add a simple command at the end of target option- “--no-sandbox ” or ” --no-process-plugins ” [Do not forget double dash -- before the switch.]
  3. Click ok! And you will not receive the error anymore.

Now for those, who want to know, what these commands are supposed to do-
  • In google chrome, Sandbox security mode prevents the malware from getting installed on to the system. “ –no-sandbox ” will instruct the Chrome not to use Sandbox Security.
  • Chrome plugins are run in as separate processes by default, so as to avoid browser crashes whenever a plugin crashes. “ –in-process-plugins ” will instruct Chrome not to run the plugins in separate process and instead  the plugins will be run inside the browser process.
Hopefully, this switch will help you run Google Chrome smoothly. I am myself using it and error has reduced considerably. TechTickLe does not take any responsibility regarding the use of these switches on your system.

Only the –no-sandbox option worked for me, but then i get a message that I am using an unsupported option. This is in Win 7×64

  2. Sahil Malhan says:

I have tried it on win 7×64 as well. Worked perfectly for me. Make sure you paste exact text(double hyphen ( – ) in the beginning : –no-sandbox
This one is enough to remove the error.

  3. Mike says:

    Worked great thanks!

  4. Sahil Malhan says:

Welcome mike! Glad that you like it :-)

  5. dev says:

  7. Agate says:

I do it but it dont show –no-sandbox or no-process-plugins!
What can i do for this problem?

  8. Sahil Malhan says:

Use only one command. I'll recommend you to use –no-sandbox
Make sure you paste exact text, double hyphen ( – ) in the beginning : –no-sandbox
    Hope that helps! :-)

  9. Agate says:

    Thanks! Now it works! ;)

  10. Sahil Malhan says:

  11. zackarias says:

It didn't work for me… I pasted everything like you told there.

  12. Sahil Malhan says:

Its working for everyone zackarias. Try only –no-sandbox
Make sure you paste exact text, double hyphen ( – ) in the beginning : –no-sandbox
    Hope that helps! :-)

  13. gewormy says:

it refuses to let me post it at the end saying it isn't a valid path name. I'm posting at the end just as you said, but to no avail. What am i doing wrong?

  14. Sahil Malhan says:

Gewormy, make sure you type similar to whatevr is done above. Like “path” –no-sandbox
Read rest of the comments, you might get some help.

  15. gewormy says:

i still can't seem to work it :S ahwell its my fault and i am very limited in my knowledge of computers and programming. Thanks anyway

  16. Sahil Malhan says:

You don't need to do any sort of programming here :)
Copy the path from properties and paste here. Ill return you the exact path after changes, just replace it, and u'r done! Bt, make sure u copy the exact path.

  17. gewormy says:

“C:Documents and SettingsJacob RudmanLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe”

this is the bit u mean rite? lol

  18. Sahil Malhan says:

yeah lol..here's what you shud use:

    “C:Documents and SettingsJacob RudmanLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe” –no-sandbox

    Hope that helps! :)

  19. Luis Uribe says:

Thanks for trying to help. Any way, my problems begun with Chrome in my Laptop signaling that the “–no-sandbox” option “I was trying to use” was an unusual and dangerous one! I did not touch that link before! so I supposed it was a virus (I have NAV corporative, updated!!). Then, I deleted the option, and Chrome did not work any more. So, I reinstalled: didn´t work. Uninstalled and reinstalled fresh: didn´t work. Installed next beta: didn´t work!! So, I am done with Chrome, at least in My Laptop (Desktop/Vista, Chrome is running fine…), waiting for a fix for Google for XP. Regards, Luis G. Uribe C.

  20. Damonbaker says:

This is only a temporary fix and may leave you open to some security issues, for a permanent fix, using Windows, simply locate MSVBVM60.DLL, right click and go to properties, add the group everyone and assign full control…this should take care of the issue…

    All the best :)

  21. Damonbaker says:

Look at my post above…however for Windows XP you may need to stop simple file sharing:

    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Go to Tools > Folder Options
    3. On the View tab, make sure that right at the bottom “use simple file sharing” is unchecked

    All the best

    • groe says:

Funny, I don’t have a “use simple file sharing” option to be checked or unchecked under Windows Explorer/tools/folder options/ view (xp sp3)
I also don’t have a security tab under properties of the .DLL.

I/ve seen several other mentions that using the no sandbox option opens up security problems, also several statements that the cause is a virus, and one or two suggestions that a registry cleaner be used. I use NOD32, which shows no unfixed problems, and have not tried a registry cleaner. Any comment? Thanks.

  22. Lguribe says:

Thanks a lot for answering! I will change the DLL as indicated. Worm regards, GUribe

  23. Damonbaker says:

No worries I meant to say that it is properties > Security tab > add everyone etc etc

    All the best

    Damon

  24. Sahil Malhan says:

Nice solution, but I won't advice you to play with the DLL files, unless you are good at it, or good at risking your os. Thanks Damion for supporting n helping people! :)

  26. Damonbaker says:

Yes I know you shouldn't play with the DLL files but it works and there does not seem to be a problem on anyone's computer I have recommended it to…but I agree only touch DLL files with caution

  27. Tandrus says:

I have tried all of the above fixes and still no luck in fixing this error. Chrome has worked flawlessly on my system for over a year, and suddenly this error. My system is virus and spyware-free. Any other ideas as to what could be the cause and repair for this issue?

  28. Plys says:

Same for me. I have tried all these solutions, and nothing works. Very frustrating. If anyone has other suggestions, please post. Thanks.

  29. dbaric says:

Neither works for me still same problem.

  30. Mike A. says:

Me the same. None of the above worked.
The “no sandbox solution” gives me a “invalid path name” dialogue.
The “play with msvbvm60.dll file” doesnt have a Security Options for me.
I guess my OS version is old.

  31. Panasaram says:

    It worked. Thanks…

  32. Comkid says:

I’m on Windows 7 x64, I believe your solution above has solved it, but I can not find that DLL :? What installs this DLL?

  33. Comkid says:

    Nup, happened again :(

  34. Nick says:

I hate the same problem with Gewormy it says the same thing. I don’t know what’s going on and when -no-sandbox at the end, it just say’s as what Gewormy said. Hope someone can reply soon. Thanks.

  35. Mike says:

This fixed my problem. Make sure you add “–no-sandbox” AFTER the final double-quote in the Target field of the Properties dialog!

However, having to add this option now after years of trouble-free use implies that something has changed. I just installed the latest Windows security updates, could that be the culprit??

  36. Leo says:

    worked for me too THANKS

  37. triki says:

hello , please help me , i have a problem with google chrome is error 0xc0000022

  38. Jason says:

Works fine w/ sandbox (only did space then 1 hyphen). However, will this really affect security settings? It says so on toolbar once re-opened.

    Thx

  39. Brett says:

This appears to be the work of a very well hidden virus. Here is a link to the chromium developers blog. Comment 38 goes through the detailed fix. Don’t just use the no sandbox trick. Your computer is infected. A lot of anti-virus software programs miss this virus.

  40. Village Ads says:

I had a virus infestation that I used MalwareBytes, Avira, Kaspersky and Hitman Pro on. Hitman Pro came up with 1 thing that none of the others did but it couldn’t fix it on its own. And the Kaspersky tool that said it could, couldn’t. So here are the details.

    1) After running Hitman Pro I discovered that I had the Alureon Rootkit living in WS2IFSL.SYS file, located in C:WINDOWSsystem32drivers.
    2) So I went to my original Windows XP CD and copied the WS2IFSL.SY_ file to the C:WINDOWSsystem32drivers folder.
    3) I then deleted the current WS2IFSL.SYS file and renamed WS2IFSL.SY_ to WS2IFSL.SYS.
    4) After I rebooted, I had access to Google Chrome again! :-)

  43. SSR says:

  44. SSR says:

Hey now its working! but it says “You are using an unsupported command-live flag: Stability and security will suffer”
    Is it ok with that?

  45. ramtin says:
