Google has announced that it will now be using OpenID support for Google Sign-Up process. In plain and simple words, OpenID is a safe, faster and easier way to log in to web sites. Currently, Google is offering the service for Yahoo! users only, who wish to sign up with Google services, Gmail and more.

With OpenID support, Yahoo! users signing up with Google, will see an authentication page, where they are required to verify their identity, which is already available with their Yahoo! address.

One click verification process makes the sign-up much easier and simpler, without having to go through a number of steps required otherwise. After signing up with Google, you are free to use any of the services like Google Docs, Google Reader, Groups, etc.

OpenID authentication is used by many websites and Google is currently offering the service for Yahoo! users only, and intends to expand its usage with other “email providers” and websites as well.

With the popularity of various Google services, and recently introduced features like calling from gmail and priority inbox, Google is trying its best to lure the users from other email providers to Gmail.
