Google came out with an important announcement this morning, which may be considered as its last step to make its presence felt in Social web! Earlier, google failed to conquer the Social web with its services like Orkut and OpenSocial. Orkut somehow made a mark in some countries including India and Brazil, but this was not enough! Outside these countries, people still consider these social services as neglected child of google. And, this neglected child became ugliest after its make-over a few months back.
Then came the turn of Google wave. After so much of hype, nothing came out of it. Many of us still don’t dare to put our hands on it, due to lack of support and knowledge. Nobody knew, how to make use of real-time situation and so, most of us got rid of it!
Making yet another crazy attempt in the field of social media, Google announced Google Buzz- A social network and sharing product. It connects you socially with your friends, provides you with updates, pictures, videos from them. Google Buzz is built inside your gmail inbox!
Yes, you heard it right, and you don’t have to ask for invites(like google wave) to anyone. It is already there in your gmail inbox, if not, then you will have it there very soon, just below your inbox tab.
From the google blog-
We’re rolling out Buzz to all Gmail accounts over the next few days, so if you don’t see it in your account yet, check back soon. We also plan to make Google Buzz available to businesses and schools using Google Apps, with added features for sharing within organizations.
FEATURES:
You don’t have to begin from the scratch. You will be following all your existing gmail contacts and vice versa.
To make it a one stop shop, google has a integrated twitter, flicker, google reader and picassa with it, so as to automaticaly post updates from your accounts on these websites to Googlw Buzz.
Follow updates from your existing friends or from the people that you find interesting, unfollow them, and much more. You can share links publically as well as in private with your followers.
This official video from google explains it very well-
Most of its features may sound smiliar to twitter or facebook. But, that’s how social media is these days. Most of us can’t live without these features. And, what makes it more special is its existence within your email service!
Have a look at it, an exclusive Google Buzz preview from my gmail inbox- ![]()
