iPhone Dev team has pushed an update for redsn0w making it possible for windows users to jailbreak iOS 4. Redsn0w 0.9.5 allows the windows users to jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G on iOS 4.0. Multitasking and homescreen wallpaper, the two interesting features of iOS 4.0 can now be activated iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G with redsn0w 0.9.5, which apple does not allow to be turned on by default for the two devices.
Redsn0w 0.9.5 is strictly for those iPhone users who are on official carrier and it does not require any unlock. Do not use redsn0w if you depend on unlocking or wish to unlock your iPhone after jailbreaking with some other jailbreaking tool. If you want to unlock iPhone 3G/3GS, then you can use ultrasn0w for baseband 04.26.08 on iOS 4.
Note: The BETA release of redsn0w is for iOS 4.0 developers only.
How to Unlock iPhone iPhone 3G & iPod 2G on iOS 4 with Redsn0w 0.9.5
First off all, make sure you have iTunes 9.2 installed on your windows system. Follow the simple steps to jailbreak your device:
#1. Download iOS 4.0 and Update your iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G.
#2. Download redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 and run the .exe file from the downloaded zip.
#3. Browse and select the original firmware(.ipsw file) for your device.
#4. Now select “Install Cydia” and to enable multi-tasking and homescreen wallpaper on your device, make sure “Enable Multitasking and Wallpaper” is checked. Then press “Next”.
#5. Now make sure your device is OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer, before you press “Next” again.
#6. In the last step, you need to put your device in recovery mode(DFU mode). For this, hold the Power button at the top, and along with it hold the Home button for 10 seconds. When you see the apple logo on screen of your device, leave the Power button while holding the Home button for some more time.
Installation will begin automatically as soon as your device enters DFU mode. Jailbreaking will take place on your device for some time, so leave it to redsn0w to perform rest of the task! After jailbreaking, your device will restart itself, providing you with jailbroken iOS 4.0 on your iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G.
Update: Phone Dev team has released an updated version of redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 for windows and Mac with added enabling/disabling options to jailbreak your device.
Another update on redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5, which lets you jailbreak final iOS 4 on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G only.
Also, you can update your device the the official final release of iOS 4.0 ( jailbreakers stay away, unless you have the jailbreaking/unlocking tool for your device) .
