While there is redsn0w 0.9.5 to jailbreak iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3GS/3G and iPod Touch 2G for both Windows and Mac OSX, and the recently released PwnageTool 4.01 does the same work exclusively on Mac OSX, yet another popular jailbreaking tool sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 has been updated to jailbreak iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3GS/3G and iPod Touch 2G on windows.

Sn0wbreeze is just like PwnageTool, that prepares custom firmware to upgrade your idevice, while preserving the baseband of the device. It can only be used to jailbreak iPhone 3GS(on old bootrom and already pwned), iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G(non MC model). To jailbreak iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3GS/3G with sn0wbreeze 1.6.1, your device must be pwned on iPhone firmware 3.1.2 with any tool other than Spirit.

Jailbreak iOS 4 with iPhone 3GS/3G & iPod Touch using Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1

Follow the simple steps below to jailbreak your supported idevice with sn0wbreeze:

• Sync your idevice with iTunes to backup important data.

• Download final release of iOS 4 for your device.

• Download sn0wbreeze 1.6.1.

• Download .NET framework(required to run sn0wbreeze).

• Run sn0wbreeze in Simple Mode and connect your device to pc.

• Clicl Next and browse to locate the iOS 4 firmware file (ipsw downloaded above) and load it on the sn0wbreeze.

• Next step is based on whether you are on official carrier or not. Select Yes/No accordingly.

• Here begins the process of custom iOS 4 firmware preparation for your device.

• Now update your device to custom iOS 4 firmware. This is done manually as:
  • Open iTunes, and hold left Shift button and click Restore.
  • Navigate to the custom ipsw file prepared above.
  • Open it, and let iTunes upgrade your device with that ipsw file.

• Now you have jailbroken device with iOS 4 on it!

Alternatively, you can use redsn0w 0.9.5 to jailbreak iOS 4.0. After jailbreaking, you can unlock your device with ultrasn0w 0.93 on any baseband.

Update: Sn0wbreeze 1.6.2 is now available. Fixes many bugs including youtube, iBooks, itunes restore.

Sn0wbreeze 1.7 has been released which supports iPod Touch 2G & 3G only if you are already on 3.1.2 firmware or saved SHSH blobs for 3.1.2.
