Windows 7 RC Expiration Around the Corner – Upgrade Now
For those of you who are still using Windows 7 release candidate (RC) build, life is not going to be easy in the days to come, if you don’t update it before 1st March, 2010. Yes, this sunday Windows 7 Release Candidate period is ending, and the worse thing is that unlike the previous builds where update was available from Beta to RC build, this time, there is no upgrade path!
Microsoft issued a reminder on 1st february, 2010 regarding the expiration of Windows 7 RC. What wasn’t clearly publicized by microsoft was bi-hourly shutdowns. Automatic shutdown will begin after every 2 hours and you will be alerted to install a released version of Windows 7. This can be really annoying if you are in the midst of some important work, and your system restarts resulting in loss of important information or data. To avoid this, we suggest you to install the final version(RTM) of Windows 7 OS .
Upgrade directly from pre-release version, will give an error every time you try to do so. Fortunately, How to geek has a step by step process, that allows you to upgrade to the final version of Windows 7. Simply editing a file in extracted Windows 7 DVD to make sure that pre-release version is not detected during the upgrade will take you to the installer!
Happy Upgrading & Spread the word if you don’t want others to face similar problems.
