WordPress 3.0 Released: Includes MU Merge and More
Codenamed ” Thelonious“, the thirteenth major release of the most popular blogging platform is out to the world. With a new default theme “Twenty Ten” replacing “Kubrick“, WordPress 3.0 comes with a lighter user-interface, a contextual help documentation and a bulk plug-in uploader. WordPress 3.0 features custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, custom menus, post types and many other new features to improve its look.
WordPress 3.0 offers a new API and the merge of MU and WordPress, that lets you run a number of blogs from a single installation of WordPress, thus providing the much-awaited multi-site functionality. It took nearly six months and 218 contributors fixing a number of bugs to build the new version of the famous blogging software.

The self-hosted WordPress blogs should backup files and databases before upgrading to WordPress 3.0. Another thing to take note of is that, all your plug-ins may not be compatible with the new version of WordPress 3.0, so check for compatibility of plug-in, before installing them to WordPress 3.0.
